Your driver will pick you up from your hotel and will take you to meet your local site guide at the Roman Theatre, which is still used for cultural events. It is then on to the Citadel, the site of the earliest fortifications, where numerous excavations show Roman, Byzantine and Early Islamic remains. Here your Citadel guide will show you the famous Temples of Hercules, the Umayyad Palace complex with its monumental audience hall and a Byzantine Church. You will also visit the Archaeological Museum with its excellent collection of the antiquities of Jordan History. In the East of Amman, you will visit the Desert Castles, which stand as a testament to the flourishing beginnings of Islamic-Arab civilization. Your Desert Castle Guide (local site guide) will show you the fine mosaics, frescoes, stone and stucco carvings and illustrations which were inspired by the best in Persian and Greco-Roman traditions and tell countless stories of life as it was between the 5th and 8th Century. The visit will take you to the magnificent and mysterious rock-carved red rose city of Petra. At the beginning you will enjoy a horse ride starting from Petra gate to the beginning of the “Siq” (along a narrow path). The city and its various walks and climbs reveal literally hundreds of buildings, tombs, baths, funerary halls, temples, arched gateways, colonnaded streets and haunting rock drawings. You will be able to see the 3000-seat open-air amphitheatre circa. Enjoy a panoramic overview from the Mount of Olives and overlook Jerusalem New city and the Temple Mount Esplanade in the Old City. Travel along the Kidron Valley to view the Garden of Gethsemane and the walls of the city. Via the Armenian Quarter enter The Western (Wailing) Wall square and see the Bazaar, Christian Quarter, the Stations of the Cross (Via Dolorosa) and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site of the crucifixion. Descend to the Judean Desert via the inn of the Good Samaritan. Ascend Massada by cable car to tour the 2,000-year-old fortress and palace built by King Herod. After, drive via Ein Gedi and Qumran, and view the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Then it is time for a bit of rest and relaxation and float in the mineral-rich Dead Sea at 400m below sea level, the lowest place on earth. Or take a mud-bath and benefit from the therapeutic qualities of the natural Dead Sea mud. En route back to your hotel, we will drive back with an over view of Jerico and the old Roman Road.
