Eastern Europe as a term has recent origins. This term is basically used to refer to all the European countries that were formerly under communist regimes, known as the Eastern Bloc. Eastern Europe generally includes two countries namely, Czech Republic and Hungary. Eastern Europe generally experiences a climate that is temperate and mixed.
Eastern Europe offers a gamut of activities, which can keep you occupied. The most popular leisure activity in this region is hiking and biking. For the adventurous types, there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and caving.
Eastern European culture is not all that ancient as compared to other European ones. Czech Republic as a nation was formerly found in the year 1993 but Hungary has a more glorified past. This was the nation that marked the European rebirth almost six centuries ago.
Major Cities
Prague - Eastern Europe’s most popular tourist city is Prague, which is divided into two halves by the river Vltava. This city is also the capital of Czech Republic, forming the major capital and business region of the whole Eastern Europe. This city gives the magnificent evidence of European architecture.
Budapest - is another important tourist city after Prague. It is the capital city of Hungary. Unlike Prague, River Danube too divides this city into two parts one is known as Buda and other known as Pest. Buda is basically the older city in comparison to Pest inherent in their architecture and scape. Buda has its cobbled streets and historic buildings whereas Pest is dotted with exclusive shops, theaters and other commercial buildings.
Tourist Attractions
Lake Balaton is a desirable tourist attraction, which will gives you the choice either to admire it beauty or go for water sports like scuba diving. Adjoining this lake, there is a place known as the Strand, which has a series of lawns.
Moravian Karst- The forested area to the north of Brno is the Moravian Karst. It’s known for its picturesque views and the underground Punkva River. This River has the reputation of engraving the terrain into more than 400 caves and canyons. Take a trip through the deepest caves viewing the stalactites and stalagmites on your way.
Karlovy Vary – this place is famous for its springs. It is named after the bohemia’s most loved king, Charles IV who discovered the springs on a hunting expedition. It attracts millions of visitors because of the healing powers of the water. There are thousands of warm springs that exist underground. The place also offers picturesque views of the lovely green dale around.
Krivoklat- a quaint little sleepy village situated besides a tributary of the Berounka River. The chief attraction in this village is the Krivloklat Castle, a huge Gothic Castle built originally as a hunting lodge by the royal Premyslides family. The castle was burned down in the year 1643, it was restored between 19th and 20th century. The castle houses a chapel, the Knights Hall, the Royal Hall, the Furstenberk Library and a prison.
