Bali
Bali is an Indonesian island located in indonesia. It is one of the country's 33 provinces with the provincial capital at Denpasar towards the south of the island. The island is home to the vast majority of Indonesia's small Hindu minority. It is also the largest tourist destination in the country and is renowned for its highly developed arts, including dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking and music. The dances portray stories from Hindu epics such as the Ramayana. Famous Balinese dances include pendet, legong, baris, topeng, barong, and kecak (the monkey dance). Bali's wide variety of attractions, the physical beauty of the island, and the year-round pleasant climate make Bali a place regarded by many visitors as the "Ultimate Island".

Tourist Attraction

Kuta Bay: The popular Kuta Beach, overlooking the Straits of Bali, attracts foreign and local watersport enthusiasts and sun worshippers. You can also swim here--make sure you do so only within the designated area--or just join the carefree sunbathers. Wandering hawkers and guides offer their wares and services, while others provide a relaxing massage for a reasonable fee.

Bali Orchid Garden: The Bali Orchid Garden opened in 1999 and is Bali's only orchid garden. The gardens contain hundreds of types of orchids that flower right throughout the year including Oncidium, Cattleya, Dendrobium, Vanda and Bulbophyllum species and hybrids. You can see orchids from various parts of Indonesia as well as orchids and other tropical plants from around the world. It also have a collection of carnivorous pitcher plants from the jungles of Borneo and Sumatra, Amorphophallus titanum, known locally as the Bunga Bangkai or "dead body flower", the "Bat Plant" also from South East Asia that has flowers like a bat in flight and Bali's most comprehensive collection of Heliconia with their distinctive tropical flowers.

The garden is approximately one hectare and a casual walk around may take anything from thirty minutes to an hour or more.

Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary: The local name for this Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is Mandala Wisata Wanara Wana. This forest sanctuary is rather secluded and beautiful. Thick, green foliage seems to fill up the space. Added to that is a well-paved walking path throughout this expansive forest, making your morning or even afternoon stroll a real breezy affair.

There are actually 3 holy temples within its compound. The closest one to the entrance gate is Pura Prajapati which is used for cremation ceremony for the deceased. A little walk further will bring you to the staircase that leads you down to the Holy Bathing Temple at the nearby stream. The most important temple is probably the Pura Dalem Agung which is a local temple for Padangtegal villagers. During my visit, there was a ceremony being held at Pura Dalem Agung. It was a rather hectic day for the villagers, with the smell of burnt coconut shell the air.

Much have been said about the monkeys in this forests. Scientifically, these simians are actually long tail macaques. According to a pamphlet, there are about 140 macaques in total in the forest, and the number is probably increasing every year.

Gunung Kawi: Gunung Kawi, one of Bali's oldest monuments, means "carving in the mount". A steep stone stairway leads down into a beautiful valley where you find 10, seven-meter-high memorials. These 11th century tombs, carved out of the rock face of the gorge of the Pakerisan river, are approached by a steep descend through breath-taking rice terrain scenery, historically, the tombs probably have some connection with King Anak Wungsu. Across the gorge are some more impressive tombs that were the resident meditation caves of the only men who were the keepers of the tomb.
